Rosberg fastest as Hamilton crashes in FP2
Nico Rosberg continued to show why Mercedes are the team to beat the Hungaroring by topping the timesheets in second practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The German ended the session over half a second clear of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo in second.
Hungarian Grand Prix specialist Lewis Hamilton crashed at Turn 11 after dipping his front left tyre on the white concrete. His Mercedes entered the barrier sideways and did not suffer a lot of damage, however, he was unable to go out back out on track and complete the necessary long runs.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was a second shy in third place ahead of the other Red Bull of Max Verstappen, who was well down on his teammate.
Hamilton was unable to complete a lap on the supersofts due to his crash and was only fifth fastest ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.
McLaren looked to be the fourth fastest team in Hungary, with Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button in seventh and eighth respectively.
Force India seem to be fifth fastest team this weekend, ending FP2 in ninth and tenth.
Both Felipe Nasr and Carlos Sainz were forced to stop out on track due to failures on their respective cars whilst Renault’s Jolyon Palmer managed only 12 laps, due to a problem with his RS16.
