Nico Prost was the fastest driver in the first free practice session of the London ePrix, while teammate Sebastien Buemi was the quickest of the two championship contenders.

The session was disrupted when Robin Frijns crashed into the wall at Turn 1. He set a time that was good enough for fifth at that point during the session, but wasn’t able to get it stopped in time. The red flag was out for ten minutes.

Prost led Loic Duval by 0.28 seconds, with his teammate not too far behind in third. The Renault e.dams team looked strong, but that might be to do with the strategy of other teams.

Daniel Abt was ahead of his teammate in fourth, the championship leader Lucas Di Grassi was six tenths off the fastest time from the session. He looked to be practising his energy-saving for the race, as he wasn’t at full throttle for some of his laps.

The inaugural Formula E Drivers’ Champion Nelson Piquet Jr. finished the session in sixth, a strong showing for the Brazilian in what has been a fairly dismal season. His teammate Oliver Turvey will also be happy with seventh.

Sam Bird was up at the top for the majority of the session, but was classified as eighth in the first practice session. He was the last driver within one second of Prost, with Mike Conway in ninth and his teammate Stephane Sarrazin finishing in tenth.

The second practice session will start at 10:30am UK time, while the important qualifying session will get underway at midday.
