Who will be the 2016 GP2 Champion?

Although the 2015 season of the GP2 Series was arguably one of the best the sport has ever seen, it lacked a championship fight until the last race. However, that is all set to change in 2016.

24 drivers and 12 teams will go head to head for the GP2 crown over 22 races in 11 different countries over the next seven months.

Experienced GP2 racers such as Mitch Evans, Raffaele Marciello, and Arthur Pic will all be fighting for the crown and they all hope to join the seven champions who have earned their promotion to Formula One.

The old hands will have to face tough competition from quick 2015 newcomers such as Pierre Gasly, Alex Lynn, Sergey Sirotkin and Nobuharu Matsushita.

The likes of GP3 graduates Luca Ghiotto and Marvin Kirchhofer as well as 2015 European Formula Three runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi aim to spring a surprise and become the first rookie to win the championship since Nico Hulkenberg in 2009.

Here’s a round-up of all the main challengers for this year’s GP2 Drivers’ Championship:
