Wehrlein secures Manor F1 race seat

Pascal Wehrlein will drive for Manor F1 Team for the 2016 Formula One season after long talks between the young German and Manor have been successful.

Wehrlein has been linked with a move to Manor F1 ever since it was announced last season Manor would be using Mercedes power units.

This new relationship led people to believe Mercedes would use Manor to nurture and educate their young starlet in preparation for a potential Mercedes drive. At the time, Mercedes denied this would be the case but we understand the deal has been agreed after a big push by the Mercedes hierarchy to get the German into Formula One.

This signing marks a big step in the Toto Wolff legacy, Wehrlein will be the first driver to come through the Mercedes junior driver program since Toto Wolff’s appointment and he will be hoping the 21-year-old can repay his faith by impressing on his debut year.

With Pascal Wehrlein vacating his Mercedes DTM role it is now expected Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon will take his place for the new DTM season.
