Formula One’s official tyre supplier Pirelli says they expect two to three stops at this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace.
Pirelli will bring the yellow-marked soft tyre and white marked medium tyre to Brazil this weekend, the same compounds used in 2014.
Changes to the asphalt were made for the 2014 Brazilian Grand Prix which affected tyre performance. Prior to the race in 2014, Pirelli were going to bring the two hardest tyres available in their range to the race but drivers raised their concerns, in particular, Felipe Massa, who suggested the medium and hard tyres would be too hard which led to Pirelli changing their choices for the penultimate race of 2014.
Paul Hembery, motorsport director at Pirelli, said: “The changes to the asphalt at Interlagos last year altered the pattern of tyre behaviour, so it will be interesting to see how that affects tyre usage this year.
“Traditionally, Interlagos is quite a high-energy circuit for tyres, so we would expect to see two or three pit stops for the majority of competitors. As always, though, we will only have an accurate picture of the real situation after the opening free practice sessions on Friday.”
Out of the current crop of drivers, home hero Felipe Massa and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel are the most successful drivers at Interlagos, winning on two occasions each.
