Daniel Abt has given a post race penalty for an unsafe release in his pit stop, dropping him to 11th place and outside of the points in the Formula E season opener.
While the reason for the investigation was unknown to start with, the Abt Sportsline team confirmed through Twitter that Abt hit a mechanic during his pit stop, and that is why he had to go to the stewards. Fortunately, they also stated that the involved mechanic was unharmed.
Abt finished in 9th during the first race of Season 2, just over a minute behind race winner Sebastien Buemi for Renault e.Dams and just under five seconds behind Nathanael Berthon in 8th.
His team mate Lucas Di Grassi fared better in the race, achieving a deserved second place behind Buemi and in front of Nick Heidfeld, the latter involved in the crash in the season opener last year.
