New engines for Mercedes customer teams

Mercedes’ engine customers will receive a new power unit for this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom according to German media publication Auto Motor und Sport.

Both Williams drivers, one of the Force Indias ( believed to be Perez) and both Lotus drivers will get a fresh engine for this weekend’s race in Sochi. This will be their fourth and final engine of the season.

They will not get to use the new, improved Mercedes PU which was introduced in Monza until the start of 2016. It is believed that currently, this version of the engine requires a certain type of fuel, Petronas, which only Mercedes currently use.

Sauber will also receive a new Ferrari engine in Sochi. They will get the Canada specification rather than the upgraded one from Monza, which factory team Ferrari use. The Swiss-based team will not be required to use a fifth engine before the end of the season as they plan to rotate their third and fourth engines for various races and practice sessions. They will use their fourth engine in all of the races while the third engine, which debuted in Spa, will be used from Austin, and will be used in all of the remaining practice sessions.
