Vettel dominates to take fourth Singapore win

Sebastian Vettel dominated Sunday’s race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit to take his fourth win in Singapore ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

The German started the race from pole position, led every lap, however, missed out on fastest lap.

The Ferrari driver led into turn one from Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Kvyat and Hamilton. Rosberg and Bottas were jostling for sixth and seventh while Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen stalled.

By the end of the opening lap, Sebastian Vettel led by three seconds and continued to open his lead over the rest of the field.

The first round of pitstops took place on lap 13 as Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg looked to undercut Felipe Massa.

The two came together as Massa exited the pits – the stewards deemed it to be Hulkenberg’s fault and has been awarded a three-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix which takes place next week.

Lewis Hamilton was running in fourth place, however, suffered an electrical issue on lap 27. A loss of power for the reigning world champion meant he dropped to the back of the grid and eventually retired from the race.

In a bizarre situation, the safety car appeared for a second occasion due to a spectator walking on the circuit. This gave an opportunity for everyone to pit and maintain the status quo.

Vettel maintained his lead and advantage to secure his 42nd career win ahead of Ricciardo and Raikkonen.

Nico Rosberg came home fourth, closing slightly in the drivers’ championship ahead of Bottas and Kvyat. Perez enjoyed another solid race finishing seventh ahead of Verstappen, Sainz and Nasr.

Verstappen recovered from being a lap down to score points – a remarkable drive from the 17-year old.

Felipe Massa was forced to retire due to an electrical problem while the two McLaren drivers also suffered mechanical issues. Rossi finished ahead of Stevens on his Grand Prix debut.
