Ferrari retain Raikkonen for 2016

Ferrari has confirmed Kimi Raikkonen will drive for the team in 2016.

There has been a lot of speculation over the summer break regarding his future with the Italian team however Ferrari have offered him a new deal to partner Sebastian Vettel next season.

Raikkonen has been convincingly outperformed by Vettel in 2015 and is arguably lucky to have retained his seat for another season.

Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hulkenberg were the leading candidates to replace the 2007 World Champion, but it seems they will have to wait another season at their respective teams.

A statement issued by the team on Wednesday said: “Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has renewed its technical and racing agreement with Kimi Raikkonen.”

“The driver line-up next season will still consist of the Finnish driver and Sebastian Vettel.”

Raikkonen’s future was the central talking point of the driver market as his departure would bring about a domino effect elsewhere, with the Finn staying at Ferrari for another season, we may not see much driver movement after all.
